Officer accused of choking teen at Augusta jail

AUGUSTA - The Richmond County Sheriff&#39;s Office is investigating an accusation that one of its deputies choked a 13-year-old burglary suspect at the jail. <br> <br> Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength said Deputy Anna Ligon was trying to fingerprint and photograph the boy from Hephzibah on Wednesday when he made a fist and swung his head around. <br> <br> The sheriff said, ``At one point, she grabbed him by the throat. One of the officers saw it and reported it. I asked for internal affairs to investigate it.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Police said the boy had consumed two bottles of wine shortly before his arrest. He is charged with two counts of burglary for allegedly breaking into a store and stealing cigarettes and wine. <br> <br> The boy was not seriously injured. He was released to his parents after being booked at the jail. Strength said the boy&#39;s parents have not complained about the incident. <br> <br> Ligon will continue working at the jail while internal affairs officers investigate.
