CUTHBERT - A former Randolph County school bus driver and bookkeeper, fired in 1999 because of charges he had sex with a student, is running for the Randolph County School Board.
The district attorney who tried the case, Boyd Whigham, said Lee Morris Jordan, then 37, was acquitted by a Eufaula, Alabama, jury in June 2000 on charges of sodomy and enticing a child for immoral purposes.
The charges were brought after a 15-year-old male student at Randolph-Clay High School said he had sex with Jordan on more than one occasion in motels in Eufaula.
School Superintendent Bobby Jenkins said Jordan was found innocent, but the Randolph County School Board fired the 17-year employee because evidence indicated he had an improper relationship with the boy.
Jordan, who will challenge incumbent Henry Cook in the August 20 primary, did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
