DUBLIN - A 78-year-old Laurens County man died Friday while snorkeling in a pond near his home, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, was discovered floating face down by two girls who were also at the pond, state Ranger Richard Burnette said.
Burnette said the man's body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
``The girls had been at the pond,'' Burnette said. ``They left and came back and saw him face down in the water.'' He said at first they thought the elderly man was still snorkeling but then realized he was not moving.
``They swam out and pulled him ashore,'' Burnette said.
Burnette said the man moved to Laurens County from Florida where he was known to have snorkeled daily.
