Judge sets bond for Sumter County woman charged in son's 1997 death

AMERICUS - A judge set bond Thursday for a Sumter County woman charged with murder in the 1997 death of her 16-year-old son, who was paralyzed from the waist down. <br> <br> Authorities said Raymond Ellis died from an infection resulting from his mother&#39;s neglect. <br> <br> During a 15-minute hearing, Superior Court Judge Rucker Smith agreed to set Ramona Ellis&#39; bond at $10,000 -- an amount recommended by her attorney, William Murray of Americus. <br> <br> The special prosecutor in the case, former Bibb County District Attorney Charles Weston Senior, told the judge he had no objections to her release. <br> <br> The 38-year-old Ellis has been in the Sumter County Jail since February when she was indicted on charges of felony and malice murder. <br> <br> Weston said Raymond Ellis could have been saved if his mother had provided reasonable care. Before his death, the teen lost both his legs because of infected bedsores.
