AMERICUS - A judge set bond Thursday for a Sumter County woman charged with murder in the 1997 death of her 16-year-old son, who was paralyzed from the waist down.
Authorities said Raymond Ellis died from an infection resulting from his mother's neglect.
During a 15-minute hearing, Superior Court Judge Rucker Smith agreed to set Ramona Ellis' bond at $10,000 -- an amount recommended by her attorney, William Murray of Americus.
The special prosecutor in the case, former Bibb County District Attorney Charles Weston Senior, told the judge he had no objections to her release.
The 38-year-old Ellis has been in the Sumter County Jail since February when she was indicted on charges of felony and malice murder.
Weston said Raymond Ellis could have been saved if his mother had provided reasonable care. Before his death, the teen lost both his legs because of infected bedsores.
