FORT COLLINS - Hurricane forecaster Dr. William Gray is lowering his hurricane prognostication a bit for the coming season.

The Atlantic hurricane season starts tomorrow and lasts through November. Gray and his Colleagues at Colorado State University are now predicting an average season. But - in his words - things will still be ``reasonably active.''

Gray is now calling for eleven named storms, including six hurricanes. He predicts two of them will be major hurricanes at Category Three or stronger.

The number is down a bit from the earlier prediction of 12 names storms and three major hurricanes.
Gray says sea surface temperatues are cooler than expected. He also notes the weak El Nino in the eastern Pacific is playing a role.
