Marietta couple face charges in death of 2-year-old

MARIETTA - Cobb County authorities said Tuesday that charges against a Marietta couple would be upgraded to murder after their 2-year-old daughter died Tuesday afternoon. <br> <br> According to a criminal warrant filed in Cobb Magistrate Court, the child was shaken so severely, her retinas detached. The warrant said the alleged shaking incident occurred Saturday night at the couple&#39;s home. <br> <br> Alonzo Tate, 37, and Stephanie Edwards, 35, were charged with aggravated battery and were held without bond after a hearing Tuesday. Cobb County Police spokesman Brody Staud said the charges would be upgraded to murder after completion of an autopsy on Wednesday. A bond hearing was set for April 24. <br> <br> Rescue workers were called to the couple&#39;s home around 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The mother told dispatchers that the baby had stopped breathing. <br> <br> The baby girl was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where doctors say they found signs of violent trauma. <br> <br> She then was transferred by helicopter ambulance to Children&#39;s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. <br> <br> Investigators said the baby suffered injuries ``consistent with having been shaken.&#39;&#39;
