MACON - Catherine Stringer scored 20 points as Wesleyan won its first state championship, beating Jefferson 65-49 in the Class A girls final Friday. <br>

In a rematch of last year's state championship, won by Jefferson, Jenny Hall hit two three pointers late in the third quarter as Wesleyan (27-4) pulled away, and the Lady Wolves held Jefferson (25-8) without a field goal the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter. <br>

Wesleyan, which led 43-35 entering the fourth put the game away by outscoring the Lady Dragons 16-6 over the first 5:33 of the period. <br>

Jefferson's last lead came at 8-7 midway through the first quarter. <br>

Nikki Luckhurst scored 19 for Wesleyan, which beat Jefferson for the fourth time, while Hall had 10. <br>
<br>
Staci Childress scored 19 for the Lady Dragons and Lee DuBose added 11.
