UPS announces 2003 rate increases

ATLANTA - United Parcel Service Incorporated said Friday it will raise its ground shipping rate 3.9 percent effective January 6. <br> <br> Overnight service will jump 3.2 percent, and worldwide express will increase by 2.9 percent. <br> <br> The Atlanta-based package delivery giant also is increasing the fee for residential deliveries a nickel, to $1.15. In August, UPS started guaranteeing those deliveries. <br> <br> For the rest of the year, the company is retaining a 1.25 percent fuel surcharge, the lowest in the industry.
