CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - More than a dozen dogs and cats were rescued Wednesday night and almost a dozen more escaped from a double-wide mobile home where they had been without water or heat for as up to weeks, authorities said.
``There were a good many animals in there, and some of them are in bad shape,'' Bartow County Deputy Kerry Millsap said.

Authorities were called by a neighbor who told authorities that the people who lived there had left two weeks ago, and that no one had checked on the animals.
In all, deputies and animal control officials removed 10 or 11 dogs, four cats and a ferret. In addition, eight to 10 more cats escaped through the door when it was first opened.
Deputies and animal control personnel hurried to round up as many of the animals as possible and get them to the county's animal control facility.
``We'll give them water and food and check them out,'' said Reggie Nation of Bartow County Animal Control.
