LAFAYETTE - After six days of searching, Walker County officials have captured a man who was sentenced to life in prison but was wrongly released from jail last week.
Allen Westmoreland of Rock Spring was sentenced for aggravated sodomy and for previous convictions on drugs and drunken driving charges.
The 43-year-old Westmoreland accidentally was released by a jailer last Wednesday after other misdemeanor charges pending in State Court were dismissed.
Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said police got a tip Tuesday and found Westmoreland at a friend's house, sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a glass of water.
Wilson said the department did not realize Westmoreland had been released until a jailer's brother saw him walking down the street. The sheriff said people also reported seeing Westmoreland shooting pool.
