ATLANTA - Charles Edwin Webb, the first public information officer for the state's Supreme Court, has died. He was 81.
Webb died of a suspected stroke or aneurysm Sunday at an assisted living home in Cape Coral, Fla. He worked for the Georgia Supreme Court from 1977-1992.
The former United Press reporter understood court matters, retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Clarke said. Chief Justice Norman Fletcher agreed, noting that ``his work is still being used today as part of the Supreme Court's media rules.''
Webb moved to Lilburn in 1963 after suffering a heart attack. He earned a degree from Woodrow Wilson Law School, and by 1973 he was appointed part-time judge for the Magistrate Court. He also served as DeKalb County's chief magistrate and Recorder's Court judge.
Webb moved to Florida in November.
