GAINESVILLE - The state-of-the-art Allen Creek Soccer Complex has put up some impressive numbers in its first six months.
Nearly two-thousand games or practices (1,233 practices and 645 games) were held during that time and Complex Manager Mike Little, in a progress report to the Gainesville City Council Thursday, said the complex may have to alter its usage, mainly in the amount of practice time.
"We may have to look at how much practice can be spent, not just because of the schedule but to also maintain the integrity of the fields," Little said. "We want to make sure that the fields are in shape for games at all times."
Little said they have accounted for future growth at the complex and that they can handle the increases for the next few years.
"We've looked at some very preliminary numbers and we're right where we thought we would be. We've also with a few changes we won't have any problem handling the growth," he said.
Financially, the complex brought in just over $40,000 in revenue while spending over $115,000. But Gainesville Parks and Recreation Director Melvin Cooper said money is not the goal, yet, of the facility.
"We built this as a way to provide to the community a facility that would be first-rate and to be used to help promote and support the rapid growth of the sport," Cooper said. "That's how it's being used right now. We're very pleased with how things are going."
