An investigtion is ongoing with the Madison County Sheriff's Office following a late night shooting that left one woman with gunshot wounds.
Sheriff J. Michael Moore's social media post indicates that at around 11:30pm Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office received calls of shots fired in the area of the Royal Food Store in Ila. While deputies responded to the area, they learned a female had been struck by gunfire.
Deputies arrived a short time later and located a female in the area with two gunshot wounds. Medical personnel treated the victim and transported her to the hospital for further treatment. Her condition was not know, at the time of this publication.
The MCSO's post added that it appears two males, known to each other, were in a verbal dispute which escalated to them firing shots at each other. The unidentified female, who was standing nearby, was struck by two of the stray bullets. Both males involved in the shooting have been detained and are under investigation. There are no other suspects involved.
While identities of the victim and apprehended suspects have not been made available, the MCSO also noted that their detectives are in the early stages of this investigation and more information will be available at a later time.
