The Gainesville City Board of Education held its second of two public hearings for its FY2026 budget on Monday night.

During the first public hearing on Aug. 5, Gainesville City School System Superintendent Jeremy Williams said that the tentative budget predicts expenditures of just over $110 million. The board also plans to adopt a rollback millage rate of 6.092 mills, down from the last three years’ rate of 6.195 mills.

“Our revenues are anticipated to be just under $109,500,000,” Williams said during the Aug.18 meeting. “Expenditures [are] just slightly over $110 million. We expect our reserve to go down about $600,000, so that'll put us at $19,400,000.”

Williams added that the school system did not add any new positions for the 2025-26 school year, but did absorb $500,000 worth of salaries and benefits. Williams also said that the budget accounts for increases to teacher retirement by $600,000 and departmental increases of about $700,000.

The board did not vote to officially adopt the budget, as it is still awaiting a final digest from the City of Gainesville.  The board plans to adopt the budget and millage rate at its meeting on September 2.
