After the deployment of roughly 4,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles amid protests over the Trump administration’s heightened immigration raids, a local U.S. Representative has introduced a related house resolution.
HR 4042, sponsored by Republican Rep. Rich McCormick from Georgia’s 7th Congressional District, was introduced on Tuesday.
The resolution looks to require states, like California, to reimburse the federal government for deploying National Guard troops to their own states.
The bill has been cosponsored by three Republican representatives, Rep. Tony Wied (R-WI); Rep. Abraham J. Hamadeh (R-AZ) and Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-NC).
The resolution was referred to the House Committee on Armed Services the same day it was introduced.
If HR 4042 makes it out of committee, it will go to the house floor for a vote.
The latest update on the National Guard in Los Angeles saw a federal appeals court determine whether or not an order from a U.S. District Judge to return control of the troops to California Governor Gavin Newsom would stand.
Currently, the Associated Press reports that it seems likely the appellate court in California will keep President Donald Trump in control of the National Guard deployed in Los Angeles. It is not immediately clear how quickly the panel will make its ruling.
