Today, Saturday, June 14 marks the celebration of Flag Day in the United States.
Flag Day is a holiday celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continbental Congress.The Flag Resolution stated "That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.
Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. Federal law leaves it to the discretion of the nation's President to officially proclaim the observance. Title 36 for the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, Chapter 1, Section 110 is the official statute for Flag Day.
