By AccessWDUN Staff

LOGANVILLE, Ga. — Gainesville's six-game win streak came to an end on Friday, but it took the defending state champion and Class 5A third-ranked Red Devils to do it in a 12-2, five inning win.

Jack Phillips had a double and a single and drove in 4 to lead Loganville at the plate. His two-run double in the fifth was part of a 7-run inning to invoke the Mercy Rule. Matt Berardinelli and Kaiden Howell also had RBI hits in the big inning, which ended on a run-scoring passed ball.

Gainesville (12-13) took the initial lead in the first on a RBI single from CJ Saudarg for a 1-0 lead. Loganville answered with two runs in the bottom of the first but the Red Elephants tied the game in the third on Beckett Brown’s solo home run to right.

But the Red Devils answered with a run in the third, two more in the fourth, and then the big fifth inning.

Jake Boland earned the win for Loganville, scattering five hits and two runs over three innings.

Cohen Miller took the loss for Gainesville. Miller lasted three innings, giving up three runs on four hits.

The Red Elephants next will take on Rabun Gap on Saturday at noon at Ivey-Watson Field.
