Baseball: Rain forcing schedule changes; GHS to Tuesday DH; Hab Central-Jackson Co. moved to Thursday

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

It may be the lightest day of the season in northeast Georgia, with just three games scheduled.

But all three will have possible playoff implications.

Class 6A sixth-ranked Buford (14-5, 10-2 Region 8-6A) opens a three-game series at home against Discovery (6-9, 3-9 Region 8-6A) looking to keep pace with Mill Creek atop the Region 8-6A standings. Mill Creek (11-8, 10-2 Region 8-6A) heads to Mountain View (8-10, 6-6 Region 8-6A) to open a series on Monday.

In Region 7-5A, no one has been as hot as Gainesville. The Red Elephants (9-12, 7-5 Region 7-5A) are coming off a sweep of Class 5A fifth-ranked Seckinger (13-8, 8-4 Region 7-5A) and have won 7 of their last 8 overall, which moved them into fourth place in the region standings. Gainesville now opens a three-game series with Chattahoochee (8-10, 4-8 Region 7-5A) who was swept by Johns Creek last week.

In Region 8-5A, Habersham Central (12-9, 4-4 Region 8-5A) has caught fire, winning four straight to move into a tie for third with Clarke Central. The Raiders head to Hoschton to take on Jackson County (10-10, 3-5 Region 8-5A) which has dropped four straight. However, the Panthers sit just one game out of third place.

But with thunderstorms that moved into the area on Monday afternoon, they will have to wait until Wednesday. The Hab Central-Jackson County showdown has been moved to Thursday.

The Gainesville-Discovery game at Ivey-Watson has been moved to Tuesday and will now be a doubleheader.
