Baseball scoreboard: Gainesville beats No. 5 Seckinger again; NoFo, Jackson Co. fall

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Collins Embry's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Gainesville past No. 5 Seckinger, 1-0, at Ivey Watson Field on Wednesday. 

Embry ripped a single to left field, driving in Beckett Brown for the game-winning run. With the win, Big Red clinched the season series against the Jaguars with Game 3 set for Friday in Buford. More importantly, Gainesville (8-12, 6-5 Region 7-5A) remains in the playoff hunt, sitting in fourth place. 

Gainesville's Cohen Miller was outstanding on the mound, allowing just two hits and no runs over seven innings while striking out seven and issuing no walks. 

Seckinger's Shia Carnish was also good on the hill, giving up one run on three hits over six and one-third innings, striking out three and walking five.

Embry led the way offensively for Gainesville, going 1-for-1 with the decisive RBI.  

Seckinger managed two hits from Jake Mars and Nicholas Fernandez and displayed solid defense with two double plays.


FORSYTH CENTRAL 3, 
NORTH FORSYTH 1

The Bulldogs (8-11, 5-6 Region 6-6A) were quick to strike with a three-run second inning, holding on to get the second straight win over North Forsyth (11-8, 4-6 Region 6-6A) at home on Wednesday. 

Mason McRoberts and Durham Roach each drove in a run for the Bulldogs in the second inning, with a wild pitch adding another.

Roland Wood earned the win, allowing one run on two hits over five innings while striking out seven. Josh Gibbs closed out the game with a save. 

Brady Holbrook drove in the lone run for North Forsyth, going 1-for-3. McRoberts led Forsyth Central’s offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. 

North Forsyth will host Forsyth Central on Friday.


LOGANVILLE 4, 
JACKSON COUNTY 1

No. 3 Loganville took the lead in the fifth inning and knocked off Jackson County at home on Wednesday. 

Aiden Gorvet's single in the bottom of the fifth drove in the go-ahead run, and Jack Phillips hit into a fielder's choice to bring home a run to extend the lead 3-1. Loganville (15-3, 7-0 Region 8-5A) added one more run in the sixth. 

Jackson County (10-9, 3-4 Region 8-5A) tied it in the third with a single from Collin Price.

Jordan Johnson took the win, allowing one run on five hits over five and one-third innings while striking out six. Ace Kenny closed the game with one and two-thirds scoreless innings.

Gorvett, Johnson, Tripp Braswell, Brantley Carter, and Howell. Phillips, Carter, and Howell each posted an RBI.

Jackson County's Price led his team with an RBI and one hit. 

Loganville will travel to Jackson County on Friday for Game 3 of the series.
