With a little more than the halfway point of the season, who are some of the top hitters and pitchers among the 26 northeast Georgia area schools we cover at AccessWDUN Sports?
We asked area coaches to send in stats (and checked with GameChanger as well), and we compiled the numbers. Not every team sent stats, but we received or had access to more than three-fourths of the schools’ stats -- 21 in all.
Here’s what we found out. Banks County’s Gavin Sears is having a season at the plate. The junior utility player leads the area in batting average (.545) and home runs (7), and he's just one of the area leaders in RBI as well. Flowery Branch senior Antonio De La Torre Mariscal leads the area in RBI with 22. Sears and his Leopard teammate Cam Cooper are just one behind with 21 RBI.
As for the pitchers, a quartet of hurlers -- Jacob Miller (Flowery Branch), Eston Simpson (Jefferson), Trey Farr (East Forsyth), and Hanseong Kang (East Jackson) -- are tied for wins with 4 each. West Hall’s Brett Sturm and East Forsyth's Grant Barden lead the area in strikeouts with 39 each.
Colin Price of Jackson County, Cohen Miller of Gainesville, and Sturm all made the list for both hitters and pitchers.
