Residents of the City of Pendergrass in Jackson County have elected a new mayor.

Bill Ellis defeated Nathan Pruitt with just over 79 percent of the vote in Tuesday's Jackson County Special Election to win the mayoral race.

Ellis will fill the position, which has been vacant since the resignation of previous Pendergrass Mayor Nick Geiman in August of 2024. In a February social media post announcing his candidacy, Ellis outlined his priorities as mayor.

"I am running for Families and will prioritize community playgrounds, walking trails, open recreational sites. I am running for Infrastructure such as updated sidewalks, crosswalks and traffic management. I'm for protecting Pendergrass history such as the train depot. I'm for sustaining emergency services , police ,fire & EMS," Ellis said. "I'm for Transparency and honesty in government and promise to be accountable allowing citizen involvement."

Michael Jones will also fill Post 6 on the Pendergrass City Council after being the only candidate to qualify for the race. He will fill the seat previously held by Crystal Hendrix, who also resigned.
