Baseball: Buford hammers Collins Hill

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

BUFORD, Ga. — Ayden Lockett delivered a standout performance at the plate, driving in five runs on three hits to lead the Buford baseball team past Collins Hill 22-5 on Wednesday at Gerald McQuaig Field.

Lockett set the tone early, launching a solo home run to right field in the first inning. He continued his offensive showcase in the second, singling twice to bring home four more runs. His contributions were part of a massive 20-run explosion by Buford (5-2, 4-1 Region 8-6A) in the second inning that put the game out of reach.

In that dominant frame, Leo Garcia doubled to drive in three runs, while an error and a series of walks contributed to the Wolves' offensive outburst. Ian Chafin, Dexter McCleon Jr., Cannon Goldin, Caleb Griffin, and Payton Walker also contributed RBIs during the inning. Goldin, in particular, made an impact with a two-hit performance, including a three-run double.

Buford initially got on the board in the first inning, with Lockett’s homer followed by a Ryan Johansen RBI single down the left-field line. However, Collins Hill responded in the top of the second, briefly taking the lead after Ruben Balderas, Jett Beck, Atticus Joseph, and Bo Ly each recorded an RBI.

Braden Burton earned the win for Buford, allowing four runs on three hits over two innings while striking out three and walking two.

Buford tallied 11 hits on the night, with Goldin leading the charge alongside Lockett.
