Oconee County Schools to add officers to all 12 campuses

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Oconee County's Board of Commissioners and Board of Education recently signed an agreement to put School Resource Officers in all 12 schools.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by BOE Chairman Michael Ransom, BOC Chairman John Daniell, and Sheriff James Hale during a joint meeting on Jan. 29.

“This agreement emphasizes a collaborative effort to prioritize the safety and security of Oconee County students and staff,” Ransom said in a ">Facebook post by the School System. “The Board of Education, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Board of Commissioners are committed to the well-being of our school community. OCS appreciates the collective efforts in fostering an environment where learning, growth, and safety go hand in hand.”

The SROs will be provided through the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to the officers, the school system’s website noted that all campuses have used the Centegix campus-wide emergency alert system since 2019. The system enables district employees to alert local law enforcement of any safety threats using their Centegix badge.
