Gainesville teen arrested after reported chase, crash into patrol vehicle

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A Gainesville teen was arrested on Monday after he allegedly drove and crashed into a patrol vehicle.

Officials report that they tried to stop 17-year-old Toby Price’s Honda Civic on Thompson Bridge Road near Enota Avenue for failure to maintain lane on Sunday.

Price reportedly refused to stop and drove through a parking lot before heading back north on Thompson Bridge Road.

Officials report that Price passed vehicles at the Walmart intersection and ran a red light. The investigation says he then turned onto Sandridge Court, making a U-turn at the end and going back onto Thompson Bridge Road where he ran another red light and continued down Linwood Drive.

Derreck Booth with the Hall County Sheriff's Office said that is when the wreck occurred.

"He [Price] reached near the end of Linwood, made another U-turn, and then drove at the deputy whose patrol vehicle was pursuing from the other direction," Booth said "Price then as a result wrecked his car in a ditch and took off on foot into woods."

Booth added that the deputy tried to drive out of the way.

A K-9 team searched for Price but did not find him Sunday.

That’s when deputies took Price into custody Monday at a residence on East Ridge Road at around 2 p.m. They also arrested 19-year-old Destiny Marie Prine of Gainesville for allegedly giving deputies false information on his whereabouts.

Booth said that Prine and Price were known to each other.

"They're in some sort of relationship, possibly boyfriend-girlfriend," Booth said. "The latter kind of a guess, but deputies do think they're in some sort of relationship."

Booth added that it is believed Prine was a passenger in the vehicle with Price at the time of the reported chase.

Deputies eventually found Price hiding in a tin outbuilding behind a house. Officials said Prine helped Price hide in the building.

Price was charged for numerous offenses including:

  • Aggravated assault on an officer - a felony

  • Fleeing/attempting to elude an officer - a felony

  • Interference with government property - a felony

  • Failure to stop at an accident with damage - a misdemeanor

  • Reckless driving - a misdemeanor

  • Two counts of failure to obey traffic control device - misdemeanors

  • Failure to maintain lane - a misdemeanor

  • No driver’s license - a misdemeanor

Booth said the deputy was not injured after Price allegedly wrecked into the patrol car.

Price is in the Hall County Jail where he remains without bond.
