Softball: Bluff clinches region title with win over East Hall; CHS wins

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Cherokee Bluff softball team used a big first inning to propel them to a 9-1 win over East Hall and the Region 8-3A championship at home on Monday.

The Bears (18-5, 11-1 Region 8-3A) scored six runs in the bottom of the first to immediately set the tone for the day.

Jaycee Archer's RBI walk started the scoring, followed by a Lillie Diehl RBI single, a Quinn Kiewert and Kaitlyn Benitez RBI walk, and an Addy Cagle two-RBI single. 

Bluff added to its lead in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Diehl and Kiewert.  

Archer picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work. She struck out two and walked one.

Amari Burce was 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in the Vikings' (10-16, 5-7 Region 8-3A) only run on the day. Kaylana Curry stole two bases.

Kate Herren and Diehl had two hits for the Bears, and Cagle, Kiewert and Diehl recorded two RBIs each.

Ella Kinsey's big day at the plate helped the War Eagles to the run-rule win over Discovery at home on Monday.

Kinsey recorded five RBIs on four hits—she singled in two runs and blasted a solo home run in the first, recorded a two-RBI double in the second, and singled in a run in the third to finish the day 4-for-4. 

The War Eagles scored seven runs in the first and second innings and added one more in the third. 

Kaylin Thome was 2-for-3, Ellie Gordon was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Savannah Petty was 2-for-2, and Katherine Williams, Kathryn Roush, Lexie Moss and Remy Odom had one hit each. Williams, Moss and Odom also drove in one run, and Roush had two RBIs. 

Williams no-hit Discovery while striking out six and walking four to earn the win in the circle.
