Mother Nature decided to participate in the Week 7 high school football schedule, forcing teams to play on Wednesday, Saturday, and Monday. Hurricane Helene moved all 18 games on the schedule.
Monday night, White County will host Lumpkin County in a crucial Region 6-3A battle, and Union County will travel to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe to officially finish the Week 7 schedule.
Meanwhile, Saturday's results were very interesting, with Flowery Branch taking East Forsyth down to the wire in a 14-10 loss. Dawson County had a shot late to roll past Region 6-3A co-leader Greater Atlanta but couldn't find paydirt in a 21-16 loss. Commerce held off Elbert County. East Hall almost rallied past Monroe Area in an exciting finish and North Hall battled past Pickens to remain atop the Region 6-3A standings.
Week 8 is another intriguing schedule, and we'll have three key region contests on the radio: Collins Hill travels to Buford, Cherokee Bluff is at West Hall, and Gainesville hosts Seckinger.
Three games will be on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com. To follow scores and more this week, follow our Friday Game Night X for scores, stories and highlights.
Collins Hill at Buford—Collins Hill (5-0, 1-0 Region 8-6A) has some impressive wins this season, and Buford (4-1, 1-0 Region 8-6A) has too. Since the struggle fest against Benedictine in Week 2, the Wolves have been on the hunt while dismantling top-10 opponents Roswell and Douglas County. It's the best start for the Eagles since the 2021 state title season. They are 5-0 and looking to stay undefeated. Meanwhile, Buford wants to continue their quest for a region championship, and if the Eagles want to knock off the Wolves, they'll have to do it at Tom Riden Stadium. This one could be a game for the record books or business as usual for Buford. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).
Cherokee Bluff at West Hall—Cherokee Bluff's (5-0) Week 7 game at Oconee County was moved to Oct. 16. Meanwhile, West Hall's outing at Memorial Stadium was one they would like to forget, leaving this contest huge for the Spartans' state playoff hopes. Actually, it means a lot for both; however, the Spartans (4-2, 0-1 Region 8-3A) have dug themselves a hole with the loss to top-5 Jefferson. Now, they'll face another ranked team in Bluff, who's coming off an unscheduled off week. It's now the Region 8-3A opener for the Bears. This one could be a Bluff blowout or a pretty good game. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
Seckinger at Gainesville—Seckinger (4-1, 0-1 Region 7-5A) is off to its best start in program history but was routed by No. 7 Roswell last week. That doesn't bode well for the Jaguars coming into City Park on Friday. No. 6 Gainesville (5-1, 2-0 Region 7-5A) stormed past Johns Creek in pouring rain last Wednesday. It could be a long night for Seckinger, as Big Red is a scoring machine, and the defense is pretty good. The biggest question: Can the Jaguars score enough to keep up? The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
