Football: Another big week of region games headline radio coverage

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

Flowery Branch took care of business last week against Walnut Grove to move into fourth place in Region 8-4A. If the Falcons win one of the next two, they will hold on to the fourth spot.

It was just one game that turned heads during Week 10's action. Cherokee Bluff held off Oconee County to remain tied with Jefferson at the top of the Region 8-3A standings. The two play this week. We also watched North Hall knock off Lumpkin County to take a strong hold on the Region 6-3A lead. Speaking of Region 6-3A, Dawson County's fake punt stopped Chestatee's comeback and gave the Tigers the fourth-place spot in the region, and Jackson County beat Winder-Barrow to take over the No. 2 spot in Region 8-5A.

The two weeks will be exciting, starting with Week 11, as several key region games are on the schedule, including three on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.

To follow scores and more this week, follow our Friday Game Night X for scores, stories and highlights.

Cherokee Bluff at Jefferson  It's another first for Cherokee Bluff this week. They'll play the third-ranked Dragons for the first time in school history, and it could be the most significant regular season game ever for the Bears. Cherokee Bluff has rolled through the season undefeated. Meanwhile, the Dragons only have one loss. However, both teams are unblemished in Region 8-3A play, meaning the winner takes control of the standings. Yes, it's a massive game with the winner seizing control. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

West Hall at East Hall  This game still could have some say in the final region standings, at least for West Hall. The Spartans still have Monroe Area on the schedule next week, and if they beat the Vikings on Friday and Monroe Area next week, they would take over fourth place. However, the Vikings aren't going down easy. They're also hungry for their first region win. Both West Hall and East Hall have offenses with dynamic players. Expect this one to be a high-scoring affair. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).

Gainesville at Roswell — If Gainesville is to keep a home playoff game on the horizon, they need to beat Roswell. The Hornets are tied with top-ranked Milton in the Reigon 7-5A standings and finish the season with Gainesville and Milton. Now, this region could get interesting if Big Red beats Roswell and Roswell knocks off Milton next week. It would make for a three-way tie atop the standings. However, Gainesville needs to take care of business on the road this week for any of that to happen. If they do, a first-round playoff game would be at City Park on Nov. 15. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
