A Gainesville man was arrested on Sunday for multiple drug possession charges and obstruction.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies were called to a burglary on Black Drive early Sunday morning.
It was there that they spotted a man matching the clothing description of the suspect walking from Black Drive into a gas station on Athens Street.
37-year-old Spencer Travontey Porter was reportedly “uncooperative with deputies” after they tried to speak to him and they detained him shortly thereafter.
As deputies put handcuffs on Porter, he resisted by trying to pull away from them. It was at that point that they placed him under arrest for obstruction.
Deputies returned to the store to retrieve a bag Porter left inside and reportedly found a stolen handgun inside.
While transporting Porter to the Hall County Jail, he kicked the door of the patrol vehicle, causing it to bend.
At the jail, a further search of his bag allegedly yielded multiple illegal drugs, including:
-
Three grams of cocaine
-
13 grams of methamphetamine
-
Nine grams of crack cocaine
-
13 grams of synthetic marijuana
-
Six pills of hydrocodone
-
and 29 grams of marijuana
Deputies also found scales in the bag.
Porter is charged with the following:
-
Possession of synthetic cannabinoid with intent to distribute
-
Possession of meth with intent to distribute
-
Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute
-
Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
-
Possession of a schedule II drug
-
Theft by receiving
-
Possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime

Porter was booked into the Hall County Jail where he remains without bond. He was not implicated in the burglary on Black Drive
