A home in Banks County was destroyed by a fire Friday night.
Banks County Fire Battalion Chief Scottie Mathis said crews were called to the home on Rock Springs Road just after 9:00 p.m. and found the building fully involved in flames. It took firefighters hours to fully extinguish the flames.
"Bystanders and neighbors claimed they heard an explosion," Mathis said. "We had one witness that claimed they were going down the road about the time they heard an explosion. They looked and saw one corner of the structure looked like it had exploded."
A man and his teenage son who lived in the home were able to escape without injury. The American Red Cross is assisting them, as Mathis said the home was declared a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
