ATLANTA — Gainesville native and former North Hall standout Reese Olson will make his first-ever start at Truist Park on Monday when the Detroit Tigers take on the Atlanta Braves.
Olson has been among the American League leaders in ERA most of the season, currently sitting at 3.68 after 13 starts, 26th-best. He was in the top five at one point. He has allowed just 68 hits in 71 innings and fanned 61.
But he has gotten very little run support from his offense. Thet Tigers have scored just 25 total runs (1.92 runs/game) and were shutout four times and scored one run or fewer six times in his 13 starts.
A disappointing Braves offense for most of the season has picked it up of late, scoring 28 runs over their last four games while going 3-1 in that span. Atlanta (38-31) is coming off an 8-6 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
The Tigers (34-37) dropped a 4-1 decision to Houston on Sunday and have gone just 3-9 over their last 12 games.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. Olson (1-8) will go against the Braves' Max Fried (6-3, 3.20 ERA).
