NEW YORK — Gainesville's Reese Olson will finally get his 2024 campaign underway on Monday.
The former North Hall standout will take the mound for the Detroit Tigers against the New York Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field.
Olson had a solid spring for the Tigers, starting four games and pitching a team-high 14 2/3 innings, giving up 11 hits and four walks while striking out 14.
After his call-up last season in late May, Olson went 5-7 with a 3.99 ERA, striking out 103 in 103 2/3 innings over 21 games, including 18 starts.
It has been a perfect start for the Tigers, who swept the Chicago White Sox in a three-game series to open the season. They sit atop the American League Central division.
