Law enforcement officials in the area, and in particular, Forsyth County, are ready to handle potential pranks and criminal behavior from students before the end of the current school year.
Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman recently discussed on social media posts about the increase in hoaxes and school threats locally and across the country. Sheriff Freeman noted a recent event that his department dealt with resulted in multiple arrests after a student neglected to report the issue with law enforcement or school officials and went further by posting the incident on social media outlets.
"If you make, even what you consider a joke to one of our schools, I hate to say it, but you’re going to jail,” Freeman said in the social media post. “Make no bones about it; that student or person involved is going to jail. So, let’s don’t end the school year with some silliness with some stupid act that is going to have repercussions on it.”
Freeman is encouraging students and their parents to speak up if they see something that is illegal or could harm fellow students and the community.
Officials say the number of school pranks, hoaxes, and criminal acts increases as the school year comes to a close during the spring months.
