What's Happening This Weekend: April 19-21

With spring in full swing and great weather expected throughout the weekend, there will be plenty of chances to get out and enjoy the season in Northeast Georgia.

Here's a list of upcoming events in the area this weekend:

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS:

Event Name: Food Truck Friday
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19, 5-9 p.m.  
Event Location: Lake Lanier Olympic Park, Clarks Bridge Rd., Gainesville
Event Details: Enjoy the sunset over the lake while you have a delicious dinner. Food Truck Fridays include live music, food trucks, beverage vendors, retail and activity vendors. Event Name: Movies Alfresco
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.  
Event Location: Lou Sobh Amphitheater, Cumming
Event Details: Free for the community. Featuring Puss in Boots at 11 a.m. and Space Jam at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. No coolers, outside food or beverages.   

Event Name: Bear on the Square
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20 – Sunday, April 21st, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Both Days
Event Location: Downtown Dahlonega
Event Details: The Bear on the Square Music Festival is an incredible weekend of music and art held each spring. Old-time and bluegrass music will fill the square while shoppers can browse local artists’ goods for sale. The event will include workshops, a street dance, live auction, and of course local favorite foods.

Event Name: Spring Market
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Event Location: Cumming City Center
Event Details: Second Annual City Center Spring Market will feature 100+ local vendors showcasing everything from home décor to women’s and children’s clothing and accessories, handmade jewelry, gifts and more.

Event Name: Anchor Spring Fling
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Event Location: Main Street Park, Dawsonville, GA   
Event Details: This free community event will include bounce houses, face painting, food, giveaways and more. For details, visit anchorspringfling.com.    

Event Name: Spring Fling at Sautee Junction
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.  
Event Location: Sautee Junction, Sautee
Event Details: Local artisans will have handcrafted items, music and baked goods to share. Also enjoy a taco truck and funnel cakes. Come shop with your favorite, local artists and find fun gifts to enjoy.

Event Name: Kids’ Spring Paint Event
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20, 9 – 10 a.m.  
Event Location: Chick-Fil-A, Cornelia
Event Details: Kids are encouraged to design a spring work of art at the Chick-Fil-A in Cornelia.

Event Name: International Night Market, Glow In the Park
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20, Various Times  
Event Location: Suwanee Town Center Park, Suwanee
Event Details: The City of Suwanee has partnered with Atlanta International Night Market for two fun days of fun, food and entertainment from around the world. Cultural performances, vendors and more. The event culminates with a lantern parade and a headliner concert. For details, visit www.atlnightmarket.org.

Event Name: 4th Annual Music and Motors
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  
Event Location: Dawson County High School
Event Details: This car show will support the Tiger Pride Band. There will be lots of cars, of course, but also food, live music, and activities for the kids.

THEATER PRODUCTIONS:

Event Name: Steel Magnolias
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19 – Sunday, April 21, Friday, April 25 – Sunday, April 28, various times
Event Location: FoCAL Center, Cumming
Event Details: The setting is a beauty salon in Louisiana. The characters include the outspoken one, the local social leader, the rich curmudgeon, the eccentric millionaire and the daughter, Shelby who is about to marry a local boy. The group’s underlying strength and love for one another has become a timeless classic. $15 per student and $20 per adult. Get your tickets at www.thefocalcenter.com.

Event Name: Matilda, The Musical
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19 – Sunday, April 21, 7 p.m.
Event Location: Dawson County High School Theater, Dawsonville
Event Details: The community is invited to enjoy this High School drama featuring the story of Matilda, a little girl who has a vivid imagination, a sharp mind, a daring personality and a little magic. Get your tickets at www.dawsonchs.booktix.com or at the door when you arrive.

Event Name: Disney Newsies, Jr.
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19 – Saturday, April 20, various times.
Event Location: East Forsyth High School, Gainesville

MUSICAL CONCERTS:

Event Name: North Gwinnett Jazz Festival
Event Date & Time: Saturday, April 20, 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Event Location: The Bowl at Sugar Hill, Sugar Hill
Event Details: Music all day with 12 live bands! There will also be vendors and food trucks on-site, as well. Local and regional educational jazz groups will be performing for the community. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. www.northgwinnettbands.org/ng-jazz-festival

Event Name: Disney in Concert: The Sound of Magic
Event Date & Time: Sunday, April 21, 4 p.m.
Event Location: First Baptist Church, Sawnee Drive, Cumming
Event Details: Presented by The East Forsyth Youth and Community Orchestra. Visit www.unitedforsythorchestra.org. At 3 p.m. there will be a silent auction to support the orchestra. You can check out their FB page for a preview of the items. Forsyth County students and community members from our local band and choral programs for the all-Disney concert!

Event Name: Sara Evans
Event Date & Time: Friday, April 19, 5:30 p.m.
Event Location: Boot Barn Hall, Gainesville
Event Details: With two decades of country music singing, Sara Evans is making her way to Gainesville. With country music hits like, “Suds in the Bucket” and “A Little Bit Stronger,” Sara Evans is touted as the fifth most-played female artist on country radio.
