The Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation Foundation recently donated $10,000 for scholarships for students at the University of North Georgia's Cumming Campus.

A press release from Sawnee EMC said UNG received the funds through the Foundation’s Operation Round Up program.

The Sawnee EMC Scholarship was created in 2016 for students at the UNG Cumming campus and since then it has funded $52,5000 in scholarships.

"This partnership between UNG's Cumming Campus and Sawnee EMC is a life-changing financial benefit for our students, enabling them to complete their degrees with as little debt as possible," Dr. Ken Crowe, executive director of UNG's Cumming Campus, said.

To earn the scholarship students must have at least a 2.5 GPA, nine hours per semester on the Cumming Campus and financial need to earn the scholarship. Veteran students are preferred.

The Operation Round Up program is managed by an independent Board of Directors, and 100% of the donated funds stay in local communities.

Students can apply for the scholarship on the UNG scholarship application website
