WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Flowery Branch opened the Houston County Invitational with a nail-biting 6-5 win over Mary Persons on Friday.
The Falcons (3-1) plated three runs, powered by a two-run home run from Tristian Browning, in the first, and added three more in the fourth on two walks and a hit batter with the bases loaded. But Mary Persons stormed back.
The Class 3A sixth-ranked Bulldogs (2-3) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and three times in the fifth to get within a run. They had the go-ahead run at the plate in both the fifth and seventh innings but Branch was able to get out of both jams for the win.
Kyle Adamec got the win going 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs on four hits and fanning eight. London Moshiri got the save pitching the final 2 1/3 innings surrendering just one walk, no hits, and no runs while striking out four.
Luke Stone, Jackson Freeman, Adamec, and Patrick Hall all had one hit for Flowery Branch.
The Falcons have another busy and challenging day on Saturday taking on first Class 7A fifth-ranked North Paulding at 10 a.m. and then Class 6A No. 2 Houston County at 1:30 p.m.
