12th annual Gainesville Community Thanksgiving Feed looks to provide meals to community

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, Martha Randolph and Angela Middleton came on WDUN’s “The Martha Zoller Show” to talk about the upcoming 12th annual Gainesville Community Thanksgiving Feed.

“The numbers just keep growing,” Randolph said. “This year we’re at 1,600 [meals] already and Thanksgiving hasn’t even gotten here yet.”

Randolph added that with the growing number, even people outside of the community are asking for help.

“A minister from Jefferson called the other day and said ‘Martha, I’ve got 150 people I need to feed, is there any way you can help us?’ I said ‘We got you.’”

Randolph said work to prepare the food will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

“We start preparing for this on Monday,” Middleton said.

Middleton added that those who do not want to volunteer on Thanksgiving day can volunteer Monday through Wednesday to prepare the food.

"They look forward to doing this," Middleton said. "When people come in and they find their little niche it seems as if they come back every year."

Randolph said that Good News at Noon, Salvation Army, and other non-profit entities will receive the food and distribute it. Randolph said that not all the locations will be drive-through, but individual people have to show up in-person.

Those lunches can be picked up on Thanksgiving day from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at 996 Athens St. in Gainesville.
