Gainesville announces closures, service suspensions for Thanksgiving, Black Friday

With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, the city of Gainesville has advanced a number of facilities and services that will be closed for the holiday.

The city released the list on its website Thursday, saying that many of the listed facilities and services will be closed for both Thanksgiving day (Nov. 28) and the day after, Black Friday (Nov. 29.)

The full list can be seen below:

Facilities:

  • Administration Building (300 Henry Ward Way)
  • All Gainesville Parks and Recreation facilities (NOTE: the Frances Meadows Aquatics and Fitness Center will remain open)
  • Civic Center (830 Green Street NE)
  • Community and Economic Development Building (311 Henry Ward Way)
  • Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center
  • Public Safety Complex (701 Queen City Parkway)
  • Water Resources Building (757 Queen City Parkway)

Services:

  • Leaf collection (Final collection for Zone 1 will be Monday, Nov. 18 through Friday, Nov. 22. Zone 2 will be Monday, Nov. 25 through Wednesday, Nov. 27)
  • Fingerprinting
  • Garbage and recycling (customers are asked to put their garbage and recycling curbside no later than 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27)
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Senior Life Center
  • WeGo

City officials say normal operations will resume on Monday, December 2. More details can be found on the city's website.
