Gwinnett County prepares for election coverage

Polls are open in Georgia for the 2024 General Election, and one northeast Georgia county is talking about what is being done to secure polling areas for safety purposes.

Gwinnett County Police Department has posted on social media that they will implement additional measures to ensure the safety of voters. Police officers have received additional Election Security and Response training and have been instructed to patrol polling areas in their jurisdictions as frequently as possible. Their headquarters coordination center, along with real-time crime center, will be activated to monitor activity across Gwinnett county.

Additional officers have also been assigned to maintain patrol throughout election night.

Gwinnett Police state that they will maintain communication with partners in the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, the GBI, Gwinnett County Elections, and local police departments throughout the day.
