On Tuesday, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger came on WDUN’s “The Martha Zoller Show” to talk about early voting in the state so far.
“It’s pretty amazing, voters are obviously engaged,” Raffensperger said.
He added that the state finished up yesterday just shy of 1.6-million voters.
Raffensperger expects about 65% of the votes will come from early voting.
“No matter how people are voting, it all has photo ID,” Raffensperger said. “I think having photo ID has just elevated people’s confidence in it.”
Raffensperger also talked about Senate Bill 202, or the Election Integrity Act.
Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), civil rights groups, and many democrats have been harsh critics of the bill. Mostly, they say the bill makes it harder for people to vote and undermines election integrity by allowing the state to challenge voter registrations.
“The Election Integrity Act … really helped us set the table for so many things,” Raffesnperger said.
He said that through that act, there is now a requirement for photo ID when absentee voting now, absentee ballot drop boxes were codified, and there is also a “clean voter list.”
Raffensperger believes the process will be quicker, and most of the precincts will be done by 10 p.m.
He also talked about the new election data hub, which shows turnout in the state and by county. That can be viewed here.
Raffensperger was also asked about a Department of Homeland Security conference happening in Atlanta on election day.
He assured that it has nothing to do with their office, and that Georgia will continue to have fair, honest, and fast elections.
