The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday along I-985 SouthBound, near Mile Marker 8, in Hall County.
GSP officials said troopers arrived at the crash at around 1:05 p.m. Initial investigations learned a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Adrien Edoo, 36, of Cleveland, TN stopped in the grassy center median which caused traffic to slow down.
Officials said a southbound 2011 Hyundai Tucson driven by Rene Garcia Cardona, 19, of Lawrenceville entered the center median due to the slowing traffic.
“The Tuscon struck the cable barrier posts while rotating. The Tucson continued to rotate and struck the passenger side of the Cavalier with its front,” Franka Young with DPS Public Information said in an email.
Edoo suffered severe injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Cardona suffered minor injuries but was not transported.
Officials said the crash also involved a 2015 Infinity Q50 driven by Stephen Stonecipher, 58, of Alpharetta. The vehicle sustained minor damage and Stonecipher was not injured.
I-985 SB was closed for several hours after the crash the roadway was reopened at around 3:37 p.m.
