No one was injured, but a home near Mt. Airy was heavily damaged by fire Saturday afternoon.
A release from Habersham County Emergency Services officials said the fire was reported around 2:15 p.m. at the wood frame home on Dicks Hill Parkway near Tommy Irvin Road. The fire was reportedly in the home's chimney.
Officials said initial reports indicated the home's occupant was still inside, but crews arriving at the scene found that the person had escaped along with their dog without injury.
Officials said the fire was difficult to combat because of the home's multiple roof systems along with a tight driveway. Water also had to be sourced from a hydrant across the street with assistance from the Clarkesville Fire Department and Stephens County Fire Services.
Firefighters were reportedly on scene for an extended period of time and Dicks Hill Parkway was shut down during the incident. The American Red Cross has been called to assist the displaced resident.
