The Hall County Board of Commissioners voted Thursday night to award a nearly $2.5 million bid for the construction of a roundabout in South Hall.
The vote came as part of the commission's Consent Agenda. The total cost for the roundabout was bid out at $2,483,686.51 and will be located at the intersection of McEver Road and Lights Ferry Road.
"We will be finishing up right-of-way acquisitions over the next few months," Public Works Director Bill Nash said. "So we can expect construction to begin sometime during the winter period ... we expect it to take about six months to complete construction. So hopefully we'll have that wrapped up near the summer months of 2024."
Concept design plans for the roundabout began in 2020, according to Nash.

The Hall County Board of Commissioners will vote Thursday night on whether or not to award a nearly $2.5 million bid for the construction of a roundabout in South Hall.
The bid for a roundabout at McEver Road and Lights Ferry Road came in at $2,483,686.51 and was submitted by Chattahoochee Group, Inc. The initial bid inquiry resulted in three different submissions, with Chattahoochee Group being “the lowest responsible and responsive bidder,” according to Hall County documents.
The proposed roundabout would reportedly replace the current signalized intersection, with the aim of improving traffic operations in the area and minimizing left-turn backups.
These improvements were recommended by a Gainesville-Hall McEver Road Corridor subcommittee and would be funded by SPLOST VI, VII and VIII, according to county officials.
This item will be voted on by the Board of Commissioners as part of their Consent Agenda at 6 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the Hall County Government Center.
