Hall County home catches fire after reported lightning strike

By Austin Eller News Director

A Hall County home caught fire Friday morning after it was hit by lightning as a storm system moved through the area.

According to a press release from Hall County Fire Rescue, crews responded at about 8:15 a.m. to the fire in the 4100 block of Cumberland Point Drive in Gainesville.

A witness stated the home was hit by lightning during the storm.

Arriving crews did not find smoke or flames showing from the outside of the two-story home. They were able to locate light smoke exiting the home's vents, just as a small fire was located in the basement. That fire traveled through the floor and into the main level.

The flames were quickly extinguished and the Gainesville Fire Department assisted in the initial attack of the fire.

No one was injured during the incident. Three dogs were able to exit the home in time.

The official cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal's Office.
