Authorities recover body of apparent drowning victim from Lake Lanier

Authorities recovered Thursday morning the body of a Buford man who went missing in Lake Lanier on Saturday.

Mark McKinnon, public affairs officer with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, said Game Wardens located and recovered the body of Leonardo Martinez, 27, at about 9:30 Thursday morning.

His body was located on the lake's surface about 30 yards from shore near Van Pugh Park South.

Hall County Fire Rescue assisted with the search.

Martinez was reportedly swimming from a boat Saturday when he went underwater and did not resurface.

Authorities released Tuesday afternoon the name of a man who went missing in Lake Lanier Saturday.

Mark McKinnon, public affairs officer with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, said authorities are still searching for Leonardo Martinez, 27, of Buford, who went missing in the water near Van Pugh Park South.

Martinez was reportedly swimming from a boat in the area when he went underwater and did not resurface.
