By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Eight people were injured, including a child who was airlifted from the scene, in a Saturday crash on Ga. 365 in northern Habersham County.

A release from the Georgia State Patrol said the wreck happened at the intersection of 365 and Rock Road near Mt. Airy when a Saturn Vue, driven by Gary Owens, age 42 of Eastonallee, turned off of Rock Road into the northbound lanes of 365 and was hit by an oncoming Ford Escape.

There were six people in the Escape and all six were injured, including a seven-year-old child from Alto who was airlifted from the scene to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Owens and his passenger were also injured in the crash.

Georgia State Patrol officials said Owens failed to yield while turning and charges are pending in the incident. The crash remains under investigation.

While most of the injuries reported were described as minor, Macayla Jarrard, age 23 of Cornelia, was also seriously injured.
