An Atlanta man’s body was recovered from Lake Lanier Tuesday following a day-long search at Sunrise Cove Marina.

The body of Terry Daugherty, 57, was recovered from Lake Lanier Tuesday evening after he was reported missing. Daugherty was last seen by a friend at approximately 9 p.m. Monday on a dock at the Sunrise Cove Marina off Flat Creek Road where he kept his boat. Neighbors awoke Tuesday and were unable to find Daugherty. They contacted the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and a be-on-the-lookout notification was issued.

Initial searches of the area revealed no evidence. HCSO Dive Team, in coordination with Hall County Fire Rescue and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, began a search of the lake near the dock where Daugherty was last seen.

DNR used a sonar scanner and discovered Daugherty’s body alongside the dock close to where his boat was moored. HCFR made use of its underwater drone to recover the body, according to officials.

The man’s next of kin have been notified and his body has been transported to the Dekalb County Medical Examiners Office to determine the exact cause of death.
