HIAWASSEE, Ga. — Towns County rallied from six runs down to beat Chattahoochee County 8-7 in Game 3 of the two teams’ Class Division 2 best-of-three series on Friday.

The victory gave the Indians (22-11) the series win, 2-1.

The Indians fell down 7-1 after the Panthers scored four runs in the first and three in the second off starter Matthew Chastain, who lasted just one-plus inning. But the Towns County offense cranked up in the second and third.

Tanner Cunningham and Zane Floyd had RBI hits and the Indians got help with a Chattahoochee County error and a wild pitch to pull within 7-5. In the third, Towns scored runs on a walk and a hit batter with the bases loaded and a RBI groundout from Gillis for an 8-7 lead.

From there Gillis shut down the Panthers offense pitching the final six innings allowing just one run, none earned, on two hits while striking out six. He retired 11 of the last 14 Chattahoochee County batters.

Towns County next will travel to Emanuel County Institute on Wednesday to open a best-of-three quarterfinal series.
