ATLANTA — Joel Lopez-Ayala hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Lovett to a 6-5 win over Cherokee Bluff on Monday to take Game 3 of their best-of-three series.
Early on it looked like Cherokee Bluff was ready to make quick work of the Lions jumping out to a 5-0 lead by the fourth. Brett House and KT Thompson drove in three runs in the first inning and they added single runs in the third and fourth on a Landon Kemp RBI single and another RBI hit by House.
But Lovett got back in the game, plating four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lions tied it up in the sixth. The Bears offense managed just two base runners after the fourth as the game stayed tied until Lopez-Ayala’s big fly.
Jacob Vokal took the tough-luck loss for Bluff.
House finished with three hits and three RBI for the Bears.
