After a mixed two days for Northeast Georgia-area teams to begin the 2023 Georgia High School Association baseball state playoffs, Flowery Branch and Dawson County still have some unfinished business on Tuesday.
Only four of 11 teams -- Buford in Class 7A, North Forsyth in 6A, and Cherokee Bluff and East Forsyth in 4A -- in action managed to sweep into the second round on Saturday and Monday. Class A Division 1 (Commerce) and Class A Division 2 (Towns County) will start on Thursday.
As for who still has a chance to advance, both the Falcons and Tigers managed road splits in their opening-round series. Both will face winner-take-all Game 3s on Tuesday.
The Falcons take on Woodland-Cartersville in Class 5A. Branch won the series' opening game 1-0 but dropped a 14-7 slugfest in the second game.
Dawson County rallied to get a split on Monday against Franklin County in Class 3A. The Tigers lost 2-1 in the opening game but evened the series with a 4-0 win in the second game.
